A shield of protection soon to perish-preserve it for a prosperous tomorrow.

Ozone layer is a belt of ozone gas present in stratosphere about 10-50 km above Earth surface. It shields us from harmful ultraviolet rays of sun. The prime causative agents are halogen containing hydrocarbon mainly CFC(Chloroflourocarbon) which are volatile derivatives of methane, ethane and propane.

According to a research by an Irish group a single cattle produces about 80-100kg of methane per year. Moreover, a recent study by Cambridge and Aberdeen universities estimated that meat and dairy consumption will result in rise in green house gases by 80%; this currently accounts to around 11 to 22% of the 36 billion tons of “CO2-equivalent” greenhouse gases produced by the world every year. Together with nitrous oxide these gases are posing a threat to our ozone layer and in turn to human life.

How do we help to prevent ozone layer depletion? Here are few ways by which you can reduce the amount of green house gases in environment:-

• By switching to plant based diet.
• Limiting the usage of vehicles.
• Using Eco-friendly products for cleaning purpose.
• Unplugging the electronic devices when they are not in use.
• Making use of energy efficient appliances.
